Big-hearted staff from the Bullring will be getting in the saddle to raise funds for the shopping centre’s nominated annual charity – the Acorns Children’s Hospice.
A group from the shopping mall will cycle 45 miles across the Midlands, from east to west, finishing at the Bullring on Friday June 19. All money raised will be donated to Acorns, which provides around the clock care to life limited children and their families.
The locally-based charity currently cares for more than 600 life-limited children and their families living across the West Midlands. It offers a network of care services through three hospices including one in Selly Oak. Its costs Acorns £4,500 per day, per hospice to provide these services free of charge to families and it receives very little of funding from the government and as a result relies almost entirely on community donations.

One of Birmingham’s leading hair stylists is launching a new series of stylish business networking events to raise funds for a Birmingham charity. Saks, in the Great Western Arcade, has already staged its first ‘Ten Years Younger’ session show at Malmaison as part of Ernst & Young’s PA networking event. Proceeds raised were donated to the Birmingham Community Foundation, which helps fund worthy city charities.
The event was presented by Jason Hayward, Manager at Saks Birmingham, along with House of Fraser make-up expert James Minaham and stylist Jo Reader.
Ernst & Young’s Sandra Steele, who helped to organise the event, said: “It was one of the most successful PA events we have hosted. We were given lots of make up and styling tips.”
Jason Hayward added: “The evening went very well and I am looking forward to future events. Being able to spend an evening with business people who are the heart of this city’s growth was really enjoyable. Added to this we are raising funds for worthwhile local charities which will help a lot of Birmingham people.”
Any companies interested in hosting one of these charity events can contact the Birmingham Community Foundation on 0121 322 5560 or see www.bhamfoundation.co.uk. Alternatively, contact Jason Hayward on 07977 072576.
