CROWNING OF THE CITY’S STYLISH

Dylan Jones & Beverly KnightBirmingham’s most stylish shops, bars, venues and celebrities have been crowned at the Style Awards 2009. More than 300 VIPs attended the star-studded event at Birmingham’s Town Hall for the third, annual event. Organised by Retail Birmingham, the accoladescelebrate the places and people keeping the city at the height of the fashion game.

 

 

 The winner’s of Style Awards 2009 are:

Most Stylish High Street Retailer: Topshop.

Most Stylish Shopping Destination: Bullring.

Most Stylish Jewellery & Accessories Retailer: Harvey Nichols.

Most Stylish Shoe Retailer (Large Store): Selfridges.

Most Stylish Shoe Retailer (Standalone Store): Kurt Geiger.

Most Stylish Department Store: Selfridges.

Most Stylish Place to Drink: Malmaison.

Most Stylish Eatery: Hotel du Vin.

Most Stylish Place to Stay: Malmaison.

Most Stylish Designer Retailer: Harvey Nichols.

Best Value Retailer: Primark.

Birmingham’s Most Stylish Celebrity: Beverley Knight.

Birmingham’s Most Stylish Sports Personality: Ashley Young.

Birmingham’s Most Stylish Independent Retailer: Disorder.

Birmingham’s Most Stylish Hair & Beauty Retailer: Benjamin Ryan Hair.

The final award was voted for by a Retail Birmingham panel of judges and was for a retail personality working in the city, with outstanding customer service. This went to Sharon Bains from French Connection.

Style Awards 2009 was hosted by GQ Editor, Dylan Jones, who was joined by a number of celebrity and industry guests to present the 16 gongs. The winner’s were decided by 12,000 of the city’s shoppers who voted online.

Due to illness, Mica Paris was unable to perform at the awards, but winner of Birmingham’s Most Stylish Celebrity, Beverley Knight, took time away from rehearsals for her forthcoming tour to sing a three-song set. There were also special video messages from Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, and Aston Villa winger Ashley Young. Additional celebrity guests on the night included ex-Busted singer Matt Willis and his TV Presenter wife, Emma Willis; X-Factor contestant and West End Star, Niki Evans; and graffiti artist Temper.

The stylish VIPs began the night with an exclusive champagne reception, followed by three-course dinner at the Town Hall. After the awards, guests continued the celebrations at the official after party held at Malmaison, which picked up two honours for Most Stylish Place to Drink and Most Stylish Place to Stay.

Style Awards 2009 was supported by the region’s development agency, Advantage West Midlands, Visitbirmingham.com, and Heart FM.
