PAVILIONS POP ART

Blog by Sarah Jenkinson, Pavilions

We’re really excited about the forthcoming Pop Up Arts Shop that will take place over the Easter Bank Holiday at Pavilions Shopping Centre.

We can’t wait to get our mitts on the hand-made contemporary art and browse all the designer crafts, the fact that it is all made locally by Birmingham based artists is even better!

Last year here at the Pavilions we embarked on a policy of creative collaborations with local arts and community  organisations, and this time we have teamed up with feltmaker Jamie Lewis,  co-ordinator of the popular monthly Moseley Arts Market to create a five day event.
Jamie, along with artist Emma Hardicker, has been busy getting the pop up shop ready. The former Disney unit has been painted white and is almost ready to take on its new identity as a gallery space. The windows look great, they have been dressed with examples of art and crafts, even the Pavilions purple chair makes an appearance surrounded by handcrafted pieces that will be available to buy.

Other artists scheduled to showcase their work are Jan Bowman, architect turned painter, illustrator and author of the recent children’s book ‘This is Birmingham’;  Dudley based glassmaker Ian MacDonald;   jeweller Ettore Consorte (Smethwick) digital illustrator Jane Anderson (Bearwood) and Nisha Grover (Hayley Green)  who produces various different artworks such as acrylic painting, textiles and murals.

What better way to spend a bank holiday weekend, not to mention burn off those excess Easter egg calories, than a spot of retail therapy.  Splurge on your new spring wardrobe at Pavilions permanent resident retailers like M&S, Hobbs, LK Bennett and Monsoon, as well as purchasing a unique piece of jewellery, art and homewares directly from the designers themselves.  There is even a chance you could win an original print worth £500!
