DOUBLE DENIM DELIGHT
Blog by Holly Ryland-Jones, Marketing at Bullring
Yes, you read right. Double denim is no longer a fashion mishap, and if got right, is a look that will create some serious style envy…
Denim has been around for many years and has never gone out of fashion. And hopefully never will. Versatile, cool and an essential part of the uniform for those who are style savvy, denim will never lose its seasonality or rugged sex appeal – the Diet Coke ad springs to mind, not to mention the Levi launderette one. Denim jeans, shirts and shorts have always adorned the rails of our wardrobes and have remained staple items with men and women alike – with the golden rule never to double up, that is, until now. The aim is to use denim on both halves of the body, varying in shades, to create a cool look which is top-to-toe denim heavy. Designers such as Chloe, D&G and Twenty8Twelve are all working the trend into their stunning collections for 2010.

We here at Bullring love this trend, and we can show you how to get it right if you follow these few simple rules…
The difference in denim tone is important – do not try to match your denims because they will still clash. Work a lighter denim shirt with stonewash denim or black jeans, which will create a much stronger look. Experimenting with stonewash and lighter denims will add an 80’s/early 90’s vibe to your outfit, and a nod to this era certainly isn’t a bad thing; if you can pull it off. Patchwork detail is also a key ingredient – as seen on Chloe SS10.

Oasis deep denim dress
A skinny leather belt and aviator shades will work to break up the look, whilst mixing tough textures and adding extra edge. A simple vest or t-shirt will also add colour and depth to the outfit.

Oasis faded denim waistcoat
Teaming a fitted denim shirt with either tapered or skinny jeans, will show off a relaxed effortless style. H&M do some great versions – pair this combo of skinny stonewash jeans and darker biker jacket with a black baggy vest and some gladiator sandals. Or, if you want to go for serious style kudos then add some killer heels to the ensemble. This will also add femininity to an otherwise fairly androgynous look.

Remember, to be buttoned up in blue hues of stonewash and indigo this season is the epitome of cool, and there’s plenty out there, from the likes of H&M, Topshop and Selfridges and specialty store – GStar, which all offer a huge variety of denim delights for your very own personal panache.
